Alan Brian Patterson Barr was born on 29th January 1971 at Victoria Hospital, Rothesay, Isle of Bute in the UK. His mum is Fiona Barr and his sister is Lorna Barr. His sister has two children, his nephew and niece, Kyle and Leigha.

Alan was educated at Rothesay Primary school from 1976 to 1983 and then Rothesay Academy from 1983 to 1989.

He attended Glasgow University as an internal student from 1989 to 1993 and gained a BSc (Hons) degree in Biochemistry.

He later worked in the British Army as a Medical Technician for several months and then as an Environmental Health Technician for eleven years. While in the army he studied for a part time external MSc in Occupational and Environmental Health and Safety Management from Portsmouth University which he completed in 2006.

He emigrated to Australia in 2008 and became an Australian citizen in 2012.

Alan started writing stories whilst in Australia and at the latter stages of studying for his external law degree at Charles Darwin University. ‘Mixed Bag: 10 Short Stories’ was released in October 2016. ‘Unsettling’ was released in June 2017. ‘Dana’s Coffee’ was released in March 2018. ‘Affidavit’ was released in October 2018. Alan is married to Julie and they currently live in Australia.
